Census Workers Needed

1/25/2010 12:00:00 AM

US Census Bureau is continuing to offer the official census test at several locations in the county.  New dates have been added for the Staunton area and are as follows:

February 5, 2010 - 6:00 pm

February 19, 2010 - 6:00 pm

February 25, 2010 - 10:00 am and 2:00 pm

All of the above dates will be at the Staunton Area Ambulance Building located at 401 N Ash Street in Staunton.

Starting salary for census takers is from $11 to $13 per hour, including 55 cents per mile mileage reimbursement.  The work hours are flexible, from 20 to 40 hours a week and includes days, afternoons and evenings.

Census takers usually work in their own communities, and the jobs begin with at least four days of paid training.  Those hired can anticipate beginning work in February or March.

No appointment is necessary to take the census test, and applicants are asked to bring their driver's license or state ID and Social Security car with them to the test.

Anyone needing more information may go to the county clerk's office on the first floor of the historic courthouse for a census jobs packet, contact the Census Bureau toll free at 1-866-861-2010 or visit the census website at www.2010censusjobs.gov
